5. Data Management and Biostatistics

5.1 Short Course in Data Management and Biostatistics

Date: 1-4 February 2010

REDI Center together with the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of Singapore, Indonesia CDC and the US CDC organized a Short Course in Data Management and Biostatistics in Jakarta in February 2010. Participants in this course included 22 Indonesian Health Officers who are in charge of surveillance activities and outbreak investigation. Two Training-of-Trainers (TOT) sessions were scheduled to prepare for this course. The first TOT focused on the preparation of SPSS module while the second TOT focused on the preparation of EpiData module. Six Indonesian colleagues participated to these TOT, all of them participated to the last International Short Course in Biostatistics organized last November in Singapore.

This Data Management and Biostatistics course was developed by REDI Center together with the International Network of Pasteur Institutes in South-East Asia and the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at NUS.

5.2. International Short Course in Biostatistics

Date: 9-13 November 2009

REDI Center, in close partnership with the International Network of Pasteur Instititutes in South-East Asia and the National University of Singapore, organized an International Short Course in Biostatistics. The course aimed at those particularly in the health sector who would like to acquire the necessary skills to enable them to quickly set up databases, enter collected data and perform a variety of standard statistical analyses. Through a series of lectures and hands-on sessions, the course which was divided in two modules, provided participants an introduction to biostatistics as well as an insight into the whole range of functions of the EpiData and SPSS software for data management and analysis. This 5-day course was held at the training facility of Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. The trainers were from National University of Singapore and EpiConcept. A total of 26 participants from 6 regional countries attended this course including Vietnam, Lao PDR, Cambodia, China, Indonesia and Singapore.
